The conventional water treatment plants using ion exchange technology is becoming either not feasible or costlier in operation particularly when water in saline or has very high TDS. In such cases Reverse Osmosis is increasingly becoming the choice in modern era. The essential precondition to RO technology is that the water should have minimal or no suspended impurities so as to safeguard costly membranes in RO circuit.

When operating RO systems, several problems such as membrane fouling, increased pressure drop, loss of operation efficiency, etc do occur.
