Boiler water treatment chemicals are designed with specific reference to configuration of steam generating equipments, their pressure and temperature.

In low pressure boilers, generally there are problems of hardness and scale and corrosion. In medium and high pressure boilers, metal oxides are deposited on heating surface, corrosion of boiler accessories and scale formation in super heater and turbines etc. The chemistry of low/mid pressure boilers, sub critical boilers and supercritical boilers differ a lot and so is their treatment designs.

The three main objectives of a boiler water treatment programme are to:

• Retard/reduce corrosion of metals.

• Prevent formation of deposits.

• Prevent boiler water-salt carryover.
